Walter Clark, az ambiciózus közrendőr (Theo James) egy rablást követő lövöldözésben nem csak a túszt, hanem saját társát is megmenti. A hősként ünnepelt járőr előléptetést kér - és kap: nyomozóként folytatja pályafutását, ami persze sokak szemét szúrja. A fiatal és forrófejű Clark rögtön összetűzésbe keveredik újdonsült kollégáival, társául pedig a veterán, nyugdíj előtt álló zsarut, Don Owent (Chi McBride) kapja, aki hamar meglátja a fiatal rendőrben a karrieristát. Mindeközben Clark magánéletében is viharfelhők gyülekeznek: testvére, a tini Agnes lázadó korszakát éli és nem egyszer kerül összetűzésbe a törvénnyel.
